Minecrafters at Nerdtacular

For those of you that don’t know, Nerdtacular is a gathering of the Frogpants community here in Utah. People have come from all over the world to gather and meet people from the community. Today there will be panels, podcasts, entertainment etc. You can learn more of it at http://nerdtacular.com . Yesterday quite a few people got together to hang out before the event. I wanted to meet some of our Minecraft community so TobyTobey and I went up to the hotel where a lot of people are staying and we hung out. We meet up with Christian. Who came all the way from Sweden with his GF and Brothers. We also met Sandi and her husband Gotrek. And of course we ran into most of the Frogpants podcasters. Here are a few pictures from last night. I hope to have more later. In the Pictures below we have TobyTobey and myself, Sandi and GoTrek And then Cris and his crew.

Final Score Minecraft 1.2.5 Update

Another day, another update. What\’s in store for us this time? A smooth transition, for one. Not only is the 1.2.5 client compatible with a 1.2.4 server, but they delayed the automatic update until almost a week after public release. This gave downstream developers additional time to update their mods and plugins. In the case of our server, Craftbukkit already had an update by the time 1.2.5 was pushed! I\’ll update it tonight, but you can update RIGHT NOW!

While the changelog is small and mostly fixes, here\’s the important stuff:

  • Minecraft 1.2.5 Changes
    • Added shift-clicking support in furnaces
    • Made the Direct Connect dialog remember the last IP for the current session
    • Cats are now less eager to sit on things and less patient
    • Punching TNT with a lighter will drop a TNT block (right-click will activate the TNT)
    • Fixed issues with links in chat
    • Fixed some ghost entities
    • Reduced farm animals from suffocating or escaping (Craftbukkit fix)
  • Plugin Updates
    • Eggs and snowballs now do a little damage to mobs (courtesy of CoderJ)
    • Dynmap now shows WorldBorder borders
    • Dynmap now shows warps (set by moderators; will be mostly used in Custom world)
    • Redstone now activates behind the button of Stargates only when the Stargate opens
    • \”/who\” now lists players by permission groups

Final Score Minecraft 1.2.4 Update

Here\’s my modified changelog for all the things you should know about 1.2.4 on the FinalScore Minecraft server.

  • Chat is overhauled

    • You can now scroll through chat history
    • Up/down arrows go through previous inputs; useful for resending commands
    • Left/right arrows move text entry point
    • Copy & paste
    • You can start typing a command without pressing the chat key
    • You can click links in chat now
  • More blocks!

  • Other Notes

    • Cats will sit on chests, active furnaces, and beds, so you can\’t use them
    • Shift-F3 provides a debug screen without the annoying graph
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Glass can again be picked up using Silk Touch enchanted tools
  • Notable plugin updates on the server recently

    • I\’m trying to save animals/golems from random suffocation deaths until fixed
    • We can change biomes, affecting grass/leaves color and precipitation type
    • We\’re now using a CartDispense plugin that CoderJ significantly reworked. When a dispenser with a cart in it is powered and there\’s a track in front of it, the dispenser will spawn a cart on the track. Also, if a cart bumps into a dispenser with an empty slot, it\’ll suck up the cart. This is to reduce the amount of idle carts on tracks, as well as being an easy method for people to store/launch carts. It\’s simple enough that you can do some new creative things with it. Thanks to CoderJ for fixing some big issues with the plugin.

Here\’s a more detailed changelog with all the boring stuff.

    • Ladders are reverted to their previous collision boxes
    • Glass can no longer be picked up with Silk Touch. (should we change this?)
    • Doors have been updated so that double-doors work better with redstone, but current doors may need to be re placed.
    • You can hit mobs in the legs in mob grinders now, like in singleplayer
    • The world border will be expanded on Gamma soon
  • Some plugin changes:
    • The player list tab has colors again
    • Hunger is back on
    • Nether and End portals will not work until Multiverse-NetherPortals is updated
    • Water no longer updates when you remove a sponge (bug or unintentional side effect?)
    • OtherDrops should be fully compatible now. (sponge splitting and infinite cauldrons)
    • See the plugin page for a full list of updated versions

I’ll end with my favorite Minecraft 1.2 overview video from Generikb.

Have fun, guys! 🙂

Minecraft 1.2 Tomorrow?! Nope. Don’t Update!

Do NOT update your client to Minecraft 1.2 until the server is updated. If you want to play MC 1.2 vanilla on your own, but still want access to the server, you’ll have to create a backup of your minecraft.jar first. If you don’t know how to do this, either look it up or just stay on Minecraft 1.1. It’s not like 1.2 is magic fairy dust or something. (it’s not, right? cause I could use some) The server will update when the development version of Craftbukkit looks stable enough for us. That will probably take a week.
