Magnus, MagicLauncher or SK launcher (which I use) can manage multiple profiles of different mod setups. So you can switch between your singleplayer BtW mod and your multiplayer mod setup with ease. It takes a little bit of learning how it works, but once you figure it out it makes modding so much easier.

What about ghosting… where you go invis and fly for a short time. The upside is that you wouldn’t be able to build, but you’d be able to look around. I could even make it so it teleported you back to your starting location after the timer is up. This of course would be through coins, as such I should probably open up another thread about things you can buy with that.

I’m seeing that coins is getting the biggest vote here. I’m not sure it even requires an actual poll or not.

I’ve been holding off on reading these because I told myself that I wanted to give them the attention they deserved. Surely I would forget most of this if I didn’t give it the proper amount of time and the … okay, ya, I was intimidated — the amount of engineers and other professionals here, and I’m supposed to be the technical admin? What am I doing?! πŸ˜› You guys are all amazing, even behind those fancy titles.

My name is Michael (RealityIntern on the MyExtraLife forums), I’m 29 and live in Portland, Oregon, and I’ve been a part of this community since 2002 when I discovered RealToons. I usually prefer tactile games, so I tend to favor first person shooters for the majority of my gaming time, but I enjoy many genres (one of my favorite games being Psychonauts). An exception worth noting is the RPG. I love statistics, but I also like improving at things. RPGs shelve much of that progression into character stats so that I feel like I’m just going through the paces. And since I also refuse to pay a subscription to play a game, I sometimes feel like I’m the only person on the server who DIDN’T play WoW.

So, I dabbled with Minecraft Classic a bit during the “indev” days, but waited to buy until near the end of Alpha because they were going to raise the price. I played on an in-home server with some friends until a whitelist was added to the FinalScore server a couple weeks after it was started. Like everyone else, I was intimidated by this giant world full of people. After wandering about for a bit, and without knowing it, I started clearing out an abandoned hole in a hill RIGHT next to spawn. It eventually became the Plaza Station. I kept going from there, building out the railway and stations around the world. Eventually, after noticing that all I did was build infrastructure, Scotty asked if I wanted to be a mod. (Interesting fact: I haven’t built a home on the server to this day, though the Engineers built one for me.) In late July I became an admin after stupidly volunteering for the job. I would list what I’m doing right now, but that kind of needs a whole new thread. I suppose I could mention the railways and stations in Delta that I’ve been working on.

There’s some people talking about it on the FinalScore forum over at myextralife.com. Incidentally, there’s a Minecraft copycat called MineZ that looks fun, even if unoriginal.

My impression of DayZ is that it’s really really glitchy. (MineZ is glitchy too) And while the concept is interesting, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I’m keeping an eye on it, though, because it’s still really early in development. It just looks more cumbersome to play than it needs to be. I watched the Rezzed presentation by the developer and it was really interesting.

It’d be difficult to fit some of those potions in 13 chars. (Others would be easy.) Take this as an example: Potion of Fire Resistance Extended. Er.. uh… [FireResistExt]? If someone wants to take a stab at it: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Potions

    RE: Gold to coins trade
I don’t really like this idea, at least not as a flat trade because it’s the equivalent of buying those items with gold. But honestly there’s nothing stopping people from trading coins between players. (unless I disable that specifically)

This isn’t us voting, but determining what should be on the list for voting.

Ohh, naming thing is cool. Hm, we could do obstacle courses or other mini-games in custom themed by that person. In fact, we could get their direct help with it. (attended creative mode) That’s a lot of things to create, though. Maybe it’d need a cumulative minimum.

I’m leaning towards coins too. Everything purchase-able with coins can be balanced for fairness and is still accessible to others through mini-games. (which should be fun enough to play on their own merits, btw)

I had thought about mob disguises. For example, they could choose one mob to be able to disguise as. (or maybe we should just make this accessible to everyone through time limited potions)

All that said, the thing about donations is most people here don’t need incentive to raise enough funds to cover the costs of the server, but we want some sort of thank you. So probably think of it as a bonus gift instead of an incentive or purchase.

TNT was easy, portal was a little trickier because I couldn’t let you just fire up any obsidian. So what I did was check a tick later if there’s portal. If not, I set it to air. Most of the time blacklists are really simple when it comes to interactions and block breaks or placements. I haven’t done fire charges yet, as that is even more challenging. However, they’re no where near as useful.

You know I’ve always considered it a bonus feature. If it worked, yay… if it didn’t, oh well, status quo.

I actually configured Dynmap in that way.

“I may be in a unique situation, however, I find myself wishing that I could use the chat feature from IP addresses that I don’t play minecraft”
Then how do we verify who they are? We’d have to start maintaining an IP ban list which is inaccurate for the same reasons.

“I have also noticed on occasion that the current chat feature misidentifies people as it is based on the last person who logged in from a particular IP address.”
I’m pretty sure they can solve this by just putting their MC name in the URL. (eg. http://mc.finalscoremc.com:25966/?chatname=PseudoKnight) I haven’t tested it with multiple usernames, though.

“It also seems that persons who are banned from the server can continue to chat with the server unimpeded via the live map.”
I actually manually remove their IP from their name, but there’s other ways of doing this. Once I move bans over to my own system, it’ll apply to dynmap chat too. Another thing to consider (for this and other needs) is I can require a permission node to use webchat.

I don’t know if I want to run an IRC server too, but I do like the small clients. Loading up the whole map just to chat is sort of silly. Then again, I don’t know if we should really use MC chat for non-MC chat. Maybe that’s where mumble comes in. I will look at that plugin again to see if offers some other useful functionality, though.

    What are other people’s thoughts?

The brand usually doesn’t matter so much as the model, according to Google. I’ve been buying Samsung hard drives, oddly enough, and so far they’ve all lasted beyond their 3 year warranties despite decently heavy use.

My knee jerk is to point at a laptop’s poor cooling, but I doubt that’s valid. Did you see that recent study that showed that laptops on average are actually more reliable than a typical desktop? That doesn’t seem to be my experience. We go through laptops much faster than desktops. But at least desktops are more repairable when something DOES go wrong, so maybe that’s why they last longer as a whole here.

Anyway, that really sucks. Incidentally I have this backup hard drive that failed to load through USB and I’m scared to test it internally. πŸ™ I keep duplicates of most things, but I don’t overbuy hard drive storage, which is probably a mistake. I should really setup a server or something. I’m just always doing things barebones to save money.

Oh right. It’s kind of a rugged forest there, isn’t it. Maybe I’ll use that seed for our first temp world seed.

That’s similar to a cooldown, which technically we can already do with phatloots, but it SPAWNS items and I don’t want that. The problem is I’d want to be able to handle chest events, and I just can’t do that yet with CH. I could store the items in a database, but where’s the fun in that. Maybe I’ll just do it all in redstone and dispensers. πŸ™‚

I still like the idea of a cooldown for PhysicalShop, but maybe I’m thinking about alternative uses too much. I’d like the ability to prevent people from buying out my whole stock — “limit 1 per customer” type of deal.
