Color me impressed. Those were the only things I regularly helped people in the Everyone group with, so I can’t think of any more restrictions causing issues.

The concepts in the mod are really spectacular, particularly the simple-yet-brilliant insulator panels. Also, making giant “winky” rockets almost had me laughing out of my chair. It was definitely a good start to my day.

The obviously overwhelming amounts of crashing, however, would make me a sad panda.

Best of luck in getting your hardware issues sorted out in a hurry. That is, unless you really like that sort of problem–computer guts are fun!

I’m shocked and appalled that I forgot about your blog before posting this Coder. That has (or will have) a lot of the answers I’m looking for. Sorry about that.

I guess that makes sense about needing client-side modification for additional blocks–the server can’t mandate what blocks do and don’t exist for a user’s local files. Kind of a bummer, but I didn’t really consider this something that would be deployed on the (or any SMP) server anyway. I don’t give my ideas enough credit to think other people will actually find them useful or interesting lol. I think my main goal is to provide a proof of concept while building some practical skills in Java and general coding.

Either way, thanks for the tips. I’ll be watching your blog for some more ideas and tutorials!

Mentioned this briefly to Nef in-game, but wanted to elaborate here.

My idea is a sort of minecart jousting match. The entire thing takes place between two people in minecarts (leaving the cart would be a disqualification).

The two combatants are outfitted with swords, bows, and 10-15 arrows each. They each then get in one of two carts (which are divided by glass wall or somesuch) and a third party launches the carts via button. The carts shoot out and begin racing along parallel tracks that have a number of ups, downs, obstacles, and turns. It doesn’t matter what shape the overall track is, as long as the carts are covering roughly the same distance each so as to stay near each other–in my head, the carts are spiraling around the edges of the square lot from top to bottom, switching sides as they go to stay roughly level with each other. During this time, the combatants can use their bows and arrows to shoot at one another or their swords to clash in melee if the carts ever get close enough together.

Once the carts get to the bottom of the lot, they engage a central set of loops that bring them around in long ovals, right next to each other for half the loop each (imagine a more traditional horseback joust for this part, where the contestants constantly take runs toward eachother at close range). The carts will continue looping here until only one combatant remains.

That’s the general jist of it, and additional tweaks could be made, including targets that when shot, drop healing food, potions, or armor onto the shooter’s tracks. Perhaps there could be buttons to release mobs or animals onto the tracks also (though that might spoil the whole premise).

Lag might make this idea a little less feasible, but overall it could be a fun experiment. I would of course volunteer to build it if I can peel myself from Diablo 3 for long enough to do so.

As you can tell from the helpful information to the left, I go by TriggerHappyNDB. Feel free to call me Nick if I happen to stumble into Mumble.

Admittedly, I haven’t been very active as of late, but I’d like to fix that. I started playing back in, oh, early February and was around for almost a month or so (I believe) before I lost my job as an assistant system administrator at a small software company in Boulder, Colorado. Thankfully, I am now happily employed at IBM as a server operations specialist, so I’m poised to make a comeback to the world of Minecraft. That should explain what brought me back to the FinalScoreMC website–once you’ve gotten a taste for this server, it’s hard to imagine playing anywhere else! I came across the server as many have in the past and surely will in the future: I’m a fan of Frogpants podcasts and inevitably heard about the Final Score server.

My building style is a strange mixture of grandiosity and practicality; I like to make things that have equal parts function and form. For example, I’ve planned a private portal network on the server to my various abodes in which each portal is incorporated into the design of an airship. This gives the (somewhat obvious) illusion that you are riding the airship to each destination, rather than simply teleporting. A lot more work, yes, but that’s what Minecraft is for, amirite?

I tend to be obsessive with measurements and perfection in my designs, which has lead to many frustrating moments, but also many feelings of great achievement. I was also briefly a conduit for Nefyoni’s pranks, but wouldn’t assume I’m in any way unique in that way.

My hobbies include many video games, hiking, biking, and the occasional bit of graphic artistry through PhotoShop. For example, I would happily provide the FinalScoreMC site with additional art assets if they had a specific desire (hint hint).

My thanks to the dedicated folks that make this flat world of a server of ours turn. My hat is off to your creativity and passion for the community here and I hope I can hop back on and contribute to what you’re doing soon.
