We’re Now Running Minecraft 1.1

It’s a development build of CraftBukkit, but everything seems to be running smoothly — no errors at all. I’ll keep an eye on it for bugs, and I’ll update to a newer build every day until a recommended release comes out. Thanks for your patience. This delay has happened every time a new version of Minecraft has come out. It’s the cost of the fancy features we have. So if you didn’t this time, next time make sure to NOT update right away.

Also, there are existing biomes on our worlds that have been updated to properly snow now. So you might get a winter surprise.

Have a nice cubic day!

Mojang Releases Minecraft 1.1 — But Don’t Update Just Yet

We’ll be waiting for Bukkit on this one. There will be no temporary world and no update until Bukkit is determined to be stable enough. [edit: We’ve updated now.]

Here’s some notable changes:

– Bow Enchantments
— Arrows which are on fire now set entities they hit on fire.
– Golden Apple recipe (uses gold nuggets instead of gold blocks)
– Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes
– Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds
– Removed collision box from ladders (you can’t stand on the top)
– Sheep eat grass and regain their wool (so I’ll be removing the sheep plugins)
— As a counterbalance, shearing sheep now yields 1-3 wool instead of 2-4.
– Updated the Fence Gate collision and hit boxes to align with Fences
– Oak Leaves now have a 1/200 chance of dropping a Red Apple
– Walking no longer tramples farmland, only jumping
– Decreased randomness of Enchantment Tables
– More snow in cold biomes (ie. more climate change coming)
– Fixed collision box on fence gates
– Fence Gates can now be opened and closed with redstone
– Magma Cubes now drop Magma Cream
– Melons and Pumpkins can now grow on Dirt, instead of just on Farmland.

Impromptu Spleef Tournament Highlights

On the 10th several of us got together for variations of Spleef matches in the Final City Colosseum . This is a highlight video from that event. Some prizes included a mooshroom, pieces of chainmail armor, and a custom monsterspawner!

If you’re wondering, the music is from one of my favorite games, Beyond Good & Evil. 😀 Also, please forgive the grid lines from the WorldEdit tool. I was operating as both the video camera and a referee.

Climate Change

As the biome code in 1.0 changed, you might see some climate change in your biome. The most dramatic of these is snow. Some places on world3(delta/finalcity) are going to experience snowfall the next time you visit — just in time for the holiday season. In an ironic twist, the desert which someone labeled “TEXAS” is one such biome affected. It’s the end of the world!

Minecraft 1.0 + Bukkit!

We now have our fully-featured server back! It’s been over two weeks since we took the 1.0 adventure. It’s been fun, yet frustratingly long due to the extended Bukkit development that locked us out of our former worlds and features. I don’t know about you, but I vote we don’t do that again. Heh.

Let me know if you have any bugs that I need to look at. You can contact me immediately on Steam as “PseudoKnight”, or you can comment here and I’ll eventually get to it within the day.

You can get to the world we’ve been living in recently by using the “Worlds” Stargates at respective world centers. (Plaza, FinalCity) The latest world is named “OtherWorld” until we decide what to name our worlds.

I should note that The End shouldn’t work yet. I’ll fix that as soon as Multiverse updates.

Status Update

As most know, we’re waiting for Bukkit to support 1.0 with a stable version. After that I’ll bring back the Plaza and Final City worlds, all the nice plugins, and your previous personal inventories. (which will overwrite your current temporary inventories — including experience points — so save things in chests before you log out) When 1.8 was released, Bukkit took eight days to offer a stable release for it. As of now, it’s been 14 days for 1.0 support. This is too long, so I’m drawing a line of cobblestone here. If Bukkit doesn’t have a recommended build by Monday, I’ll install the development version. There may be a few bugs, but we’ve weathered those before.

Once we have Bukkit installed again, I’m going to start a new thing where I’ll install a different temporary fun plugin each week. People seemed to really enjoy the costumes during Halloween, so they’ll be in that vein. While these will be by default “temporary” plugins, some of them may be okay for a permanent place on our server, which will be determined by votes and/or enthusiasm for each plugin.

As for the current world, due to the length of the wait, we’ll be keeping it. (but in what state, I’m unsure) As always, I encourage people NOT to wander in one direction for too long. That makes world management cumbersome. Since we’ll have three “primary” worlds, I’ll be working on new interesting ways to connect them, as well as more ways to differentiate them. I may need your opinions on that later.

Speaking of differentiating worlds, we need to give them proper names. Submit below some suggestions for world names and I’ll put them up for vote soon. As an example, here’s my proposal:

  • “Alpha” (first world w/ Plaza)
  • “Delta” (second world w/ Final City)
  • “Gamma” (third/last world)
