Thanks for bringing this up. We’re actually about to hit our billing cycle and could use some funds to pay for the server costs. I put up a page to assist with this and will hopefully be making a new State of the Server post that reminds others.

Well, I’m sure you’ve already found this, but if not:

That’s the fastest way to design something. I demonstrated it with one of my own.

Like an actual image? Everything I see suggests they use immutable predefined patterns.

However, I did discover a possible way to create completely customizable skulls with any texture we want on them. We can also do that with maps, of course. Lastly, we can use resource packs for minigames if we want to.

I’m just trying to make the server a good experience for everyone. Obviously we can’t be everything to everyone (we’re not a Factions server, for example), but respecting other people (and by extension their virtual property) goes a long way to allowing people to make what they want of their time. I understand sometimes people’s idea of the server and the actual server is incongruous. We’re a fairly open and cooperative survival server, with mostly opt-in first-line-of-defense protection methods. So if you’re wondering, if something isn’t protected, it doesn’t mean it’s permissible to take it. We also have Frog Park for our custom mini-games (though there’s been an emphasis on survival these last couple months, but I hope to add some more fun submissions there soon). If that sounds good, you’re welcome to continue playing here. I unblocked you.

She’s out of the woods. Still need to give her medicine twice a day and sometimes syringe feed her if she’s not eating enough herself. (yesterday 2-3 times)

I think that was primarily corndogunite’s project. Does anyone know his contact info?

I think smoothing out the rest of the walls would not only be okay but welcomed.

You took some materials from a chest and also broke someone’s door without replacing it. After your earlier behavior, I felt I couldn’t trust that it wouldn’t continue without at least talking with you first.

I think similar ideas have been tossed around. The big difference, I think, is that the entire server would be able to build and play at the same time. Previous suggestions were having a small group build it, which was untenable, given the enormity of such a project. This is why I focus on smaller games in Frog Park, because they can be finished without consuming all of our minecraft time. World building is one of the most time consuming activities, and least efficient in terms of time-to-gameplay. If I can create a game in a 32×32 area that’s just as fun as a game in a 1000×1000 area, guess which one I’ll build?

Another similar suggestion is using something like MCMMO, a plugin designed to make it more like an RPG. But if you look at it, it does a lot of silly things. Like, if you punch ~5-10 mobs to death, you level up your punching, and suddenly your punching strength is greater than a weapon. What benefit does this have? None that I can see. It’s funny to 1-2 hit mobs with your fist, but it doesn’t make things more interesting. Perhaps it gives a more guided experience, which some players need in open worlds.

I’ve been contemplating the idea of inserting NPCs into our main worlds. So that people can liven up their existing builds. One thing NPCs can do is give quests. Although, I’m not sure quests are inherently more fun. Plus you can already do this with shops or player requests. (quests are just simulated demand) There’s already plenty to do in the game.

Bosses could be a thing. Mobs with greater difficulty to kill and higher rewards. However, this is hard to do. Anyone who participated in Easter could see the potential in this, but there’s only so many rewards that would be worth the risk.

It’d be interesting to experiment with this on a smaller scale. I’ve always wanted to setup our intro area as a mini-RPG/adventure.

That was my fault. I adjusted his region and checked for overlaps the first time, but it skipped my mind the second time I adjusted it. I fixed it right after you left.

That’s a personal preference issue. I remember hearing many complaints about no respawning in CounterStrike. Some people can’t be bothered to sit still for a bit. Others, like me, enjoy the break — discussion and community. The go-go-go nature of constant respawns is too much… everything blends together and time becomes your enemy. In fact, I’ve been considering ways to make other games have a better pacing with short breaths between the action.

The real problem you’re talking about is matches that drag on too long because people keep running and/or hiding. I’ve addressed some of that, but obviously people are really good at delaying games and I’m always considering new ways of alleviating that.

Anyway, we’ve also considered spectator influence game types. Showdown is not such a game type. It just doesn’t fit.

froggerooh wants to make a sequel to Walrus. I want to refine the first one.

That’s a lot like the Vector.

Heh, ya. I looked at that ages ago. Back then Minecraft was a little buggy and it showed you floating over the chair, even though other players saw you in the chair fine. It looks like it’s much more advanced now, looking at the code. It does some of the things “naughty”, though. I’ll see if I can replicate something like it in my scripts for fun.

Ya, it was just temporary connection issue. That’s a generic connection lost error.

The dragon was in progress when you commented. (no longer has the small fireballs, uses flame breath, and can fly) If I went with the typical description of a dragon the class would be far too powerful. I had to limit it in some way, so I made it fire breath limited in range and it’s flight limited in duration. It has a little more armor than other classes, such that it’s the second most armored class behind the robot.

We’ll not be using the “slenderman” name, but those abilities are planned for other classes.
